Odoo: the new support policy for 2026

Since July 10, 2025, Odoo has announced a major change to its support policy: now, all versions of Odoo Enterprise will be able to benefit from extended support, beyond the three most recent versions usually covered. This is excellent news for companies wishing to maintain their Odoo environment longer without the constraints of immediate migration. However, this comes with a 25% increase on the annual license cost for versions older than four years.

This decision responds to a growing user demand: to avoid overly frequent, often costly and time-consuming migrations. However, it raises a crucial question for every company: Should we pay this surcharge to stay on an older version, or take the opportunity to migrate to the latest version of Odoo?

At BAAMTU, strong in our experience in Deployment of Odoo for over 100 organizations across various sectorsIn this article, we offer a clear and pragmatic perspective on this change.

We will help you understand the scope of this new pricing, to assess the advantages and disadvantages of maintaining an existing version, and to objectively determine when a migration is the best option for your organization.

I. Understanding Odoo's new support policy

A. What is Odoo?

Odoo is a business management software suite (ERP – Enterprise Resource Planning) of Belgian origin, now used all over the world.
It brings together on a single platform all the essential tools for managing an organization : accounting, sales, purchasing, inventory management, production, human resources, project management, marketing, CRM, etc.

One of Odoo's major strengths is its modularity: each company can activate only the applications it needs and gradually develop them according to its growth.
This approach makes Odoo more flexible and accessible than most traditional ERPs.

B. What is Odoo Enterprise?

Odoo exists in two main editions:

Subscription Odoo Enterprise therefore gives access:
  • to regular updates software,
  • At technical support (support, error correction, security),
  • and to a license agreement ensuring the conformity and stability of the system.
This is the version Enterprise that the majority of companies use in their professional environments, often deployed by a certified partner as BAAMTU.

C. What does “Odoo version” mean?

Each year, Odoo publishes a new major version : Odoo 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, etc.
Each version brings:

  • of new features (e.g., an improved module, new dashboards, better ergonomics),
  • des technical improvements (performance, security, integrations),
  • and sometimes changes in the structure of the modules.
Companies can thus choose to migrate to a new version to benefit from these advances, or to remain on their current version to preserve the stability of their environment.

D. What is Odoo “technical support”?

ODOO Enterprise users pay a monthly fee per user to use the software and receive ODOO technical support.

The technical support is a set of services provided by Odoo regarding standard functionalities:

  • Assistance in case of bug, error or failure
  • Security fixes (patches and updates),
  • Help in solving compatibility issues or performance,
  • And access to minor updates of the version used.
This support is crucial to guaranteeing the system reliability and security, especially in critical environments (finance, production, e-commerce, etc.).

E. A major evolution of the support model

Until recently, Odoo Enterprise technical support did not cover than the last three versions.
Thus, a company using an older version had to migrate every two to three years to continue to benefit from official support.

But since July 2025Odoo announced a Support extended to all versions, without automatic depreciation.
In other words: even a company that has remained on an older version (Odoo 13, 14, etc.) will now be able to continue receiving support, patches and security updates for standard ODOO features.

In return, versions older than four years (starting from the latest version) will be subject to a 25% surcharge on the annual license fee.
A change that offers more freedom to businesses, but which requires a strategic assessment Should we pay this surcharge to keep our current environment, or migrate to a newer version?

II. What this increase implies in concrete terms (New Odoo support policy)

A. Who is affected by the new Odoo support policy?

The surcharge applies only to companies under contract with Odoo Enterprisethat they use the solution:

  • on their own infrastructure (On-Premise), Or
  • via Odoo.sh, the cloud environment managed by Odoo.

Customers Odoo Online are not affected, as their instances are automatically updated by Odoo.
Users of the version Community They are not either, since they do not benefit from any official support.

B. How is the surcharge applied?

The 25% supplement is in addition to the annual license fee for the versions of Odoo that are more than four years old.
It does not modify the contract or the structure of the service: it is simply a price adjustment applied at the time of the renewal.

Example: a company that pays €8,000/$8,000/CFA francs per year for its Odoo Enterprise license will pay 10 000 €/$/CFA francs if she chooses to keep an older version.

This additional cost automatically stops as soon as a migration to a recent version is carried out.

C. What technical support covers and does not cover

The official Odoo support concerns only the standard features of the Enterprise solution.
This includes:

  • The native modules provided by Odoo.
  • The security updates and fixes,
  • assistance on the bugs or anomalies identified in the standard code.

On the other hand, the support does not cover

  • The specific developments made to measure,
  • The community modules or external,
  • The third-party integrations not managed directly by Odoo.

These elements remain the responsibility of the integration partner, as BAAMTUwhich ensures their maintenance and development.

In other words: extended support protects the Odoo database, but not the business customizations which have been added to it.

D. When does this measure come into effect? (New Odoo support policy)

Odoo will begin applying this pricing starting with contract renewals in 2026.
Customers therefore have several months to:

  • plan a migration,
  • budget for the potential impact,
  • or assess the relevance of keeping their current version.

E. What this changes for organizations and businesses (New Odoo support policy)

This development introduces a new financial and strategic arbitration. Stay on its current version may be relevant for companies that have invested heavily in specific developments perfectly tailored to their processes.
This avoids a complex, lengthy, and costly migration, and preserves system stability. The 25% additional cost can then be seen as significantly lower than coût de la migration.

Migrate to a recent versionConversely, it offers the opportunity to benefit from the latest innovations Odoo: new features, better performance, increased security and simplified future integrations. This requires an initial investment, but can reduce long-term maintenance costs.

It is important to note that the issue is therefore not a choice between "paying or migrating", but rather objectively measure the cost-benefit ratio of each scenario according to the reality of your Odoo environment.

Chez BAAMTU, nous accompagnons les organisations dans cette analyse, en combinant expertise fonctionnelle et retour d’expérience sur plus de 100 déploiements Odoo.
