Odoo Enterprise support: technical impacts 2026

Since July 10, 2025, Odoo has announced a major change to its support policy: all versions of Odoo Enterprise will now benefit from extended support, whereas previously only the three most recent versions were covered. This measure addresses the need for businesses to avoid frequent migrations, but entails a 25% license surcharge for versions older than four years.

In this article, we analyze the technical and operational consequences of this change, the implications for maintenance and updates, as well as the different possible scenarios for effectively managing your Odoo environment.

I. An evolution that redefines the logic of support

1. L’ancien modèle :

Odoo limited its support to the three most recent major versions. However, starting in April 2026, instances will no longer be eligible for patches, security updates, or official support. In practice, this implies a migration cycle every two to three years, ensuring a homogeneous infrastructure but requiring significant resources and coordination.

2. Le nouveau modèle :

Odoo now offers extended support for all Enterprise versions, without limitation. In return, a 25% surcharge applies to the license for versions older than four years. The scope remains the same: support, patches, and security for the standard code.

This change offers real flexibility, while encouraging proactive control of the release cycle to avoid budget overruns.

3. Les conséquences opérationnelles

This development calls for a rethinking of certain aspects of maintenance:

  • version tracking The age of the system becomes a budgetary factor
  • dependency management Versions of Python or third-party libraries must remain compatible.
  • update planning : version upgrades become a lever for cost control and maintaining performance.

II. Scénarios possibles et choix techniques

1. Maintenir la version actuelle

Maintaining an older version helps preserve a stable environment, particularly in highly customized contexts or those integrated with critical business systems. However, this approach has several implications:

  • A additional cost of 25% on the license from April 2026
  • a more complex subsequent migration, due to the growing technological gap
  • and one increased dependence to the integration partner for corrective maintenance and specific updates. It is a continuity option, viable if it is accompanied by rigorous monitoring of software debt and dependencies.

2. Anticiper la migration

Planning a migration before 2026 allows you to:

  • to avoid the license surcharge
  • to benefit from recent developments in performance, security and integration
  • and to maintain compatibility with modern environments (Odoo.sh, third-party APIs).

Both scenarios are viable depending on the maturity of the environment.Maintaining an older version may be justified in the short term in complex contexts, but it must remain temporary and accompanied by a clear migration plan.

Cette réforme du support Odoo Enterprise ne crée pas de rupture, elle redéfinit simplement les responsabilités.
